MIVUSers:

Greetings, everyone! Dave, K8CC here. I only recently re-discovered
this club, so I sent in my membership application and subscribed to this
reflector.

I wanted to congratulate the club for winning the local club category in
the 2015 ARRL September VHF Contest. Not only was that a significant
honor for the club and for those who participated, but it was that
announcement in QST that alerted me that MIVUS had risen from dormancy
and was active again.

I have been somewhat dormant myself radio-wise in recent years,
particularly on VHF/UHF. I retired from Chrysler in June 2014 and
expected to use my newly-acquired free time to jump right in getting my
station QRV again. However, immediately after retiring my elderly
father's health took a turn for the worse, and I spent the summer and
fall of 2014 ferrying him to doctors appointments as he was in and our
of the hospital seven times, and eventually passed away in November 2014.

Since then, I am slowly getting my VHF stuff QRV again. Thanks to Ian,
K8MM reminding me about the 432 Sprint last week, I got enough things
working to get on with 50W and a 432 Boomer at 75'. Activity was kind of
light in this area, but I worked K8MM, WW8M, NE8I, W8RU and KB8DGC. My
best DX to the east was WA2FGK in FN21, and to the west was W9ZIH in
EN51 (the only Chicago area station heard). I finished with 16 QSOs and
13 grids.

I hope to have my station QRV for the June VHF QSO Party with low power
(as defined by the contest rules, not QRP) on 50 thru 1296. Hopefully,
we can get a bunch of club members on the air and maybe take the local
club category in this contest as well.

Is anybody in the club planning to be on for the Microwave Sprint next
weekend? Unfortunately, while I do have a 40W DEMI 1296 transverter, I
don't yet have an antenna for 1296 but I should have my 903 setup
running - only 10W from a DEMI transverter, but the antenna is pretty
good - an M2 44L yagi up 65' with a decent feedline. My best DX with
this setup has been K2YAZ up in EN74 and WA8RJF out in EN91 so while I
won't be the "big sig on band", I should be able to cover the club area
fairly well.

I hope to see a bunch of club members on 903 next weekend...

73, Dave/K8CC
