[Mich VHF UHF Society] NE8I as Mich VHF UHF Society club callsign?

Do any of the old MiVUS members know where the AD8U club call sign came from? Was it randomly assigned or was it from a silent key member? Is there enough interest in changing it to NE8I?

MIVUSers:

Brandon's note triggered the thought that maybe the club should apply
for NE8I as a club call sign as a memorial to Lloyd?  Then the club
could grant permission for Brandon to legally use it on his 10 GHz beacon.

The application process to get NE8I as the club's call sign begins with
MIVUS applying for a generic 2 x 3 call sign, then getting permission
from Lloyd's family to apply for NE8I as a vanity club call.  So it
could take several months.

I don't think that there are any costs to do this, but if there are I'd
be glad to contribute.

I had it operational over Lake Superior but ran into some issues. Lloyd helped me repair it and now I would like to place it over Northern Lake Michigan since there may be more stations likely to hear it. I hope to add an amplifier to it to boost the 200 mW soon. What I think would be really great would be to use NE8I as the callsign but for now I will use mine. I will let everyone know when I find a high spot and the beacon(s) are operational. 73' de N8PUM Brandon EN66dl
