          cells are maxing out at about 10,000', far too short for us to
          try. Spring and summer for sure.</font></font></p>
    <p><font size="+2"><font face="Arial">I just took a quick look at
          the KF8QL beacon near Grand Rapids at 225 km and there was RS
          present. The beacon is normally 100% invisible under normal
          conditions. Signals not real strong just now but enough for a

        <p class="MsoNormal">I’m seeing the same thing here- we have a
          heavy rain cell directly between my QTH and the W2UTH beacon
          in FN12hv that’s been sitting still all morning.  The beacon
          is very strong here today on the direct path, but purely rain
          scatter.  Lots of spreading- almost 2kHz.  I normally cannot
          hear the beacon at my QTH due to tree blockage and terrain. 
          I’m even seeing rain scatter on our 1296 beacon.<o:p></o:p></p>

            and I did a quick experiment to see how effective 10 GHz RS
            was when the path was going through really dense rain.
            Surprisingly even though my end was going through a solid
            100 miles of heavy rain we had excellent RS signals. The
            total path length was 225 miles (360 km) and it was raining
            cats & dogs. Enclosed is a snap shot of the rain layout
            between us and a URL for a brief WAV file of the QSO. Also
            surprisingly not a crazy amount of spreading.</span><o:p></o:p></p>

            this might encourage others to get out there and take
            advantage of all this wonderful rain :-)</span><o:p></o:p></p>
