proper WSJTX VHF contest mode operation. While I was very happy to see so
many using the new FT8 mode during the 6m Sprint contest, most were NOT using
the Contest Mode to provide the required Grid Square exchange. I do this
in hopes of correcting the error of sending a numerical report during a VHF
contest which greatly slows down the exchange process. Regardless if you
intend to submit a score to enter your station into the contest or you’re just
handing out points and looking for new grids, the proper exchange format is very
important to those who are. Please take a few minutes to become familiar
with the process before the June VHF contest when things really get going fast
and furious. </div>

<div>Version 1.9.0-rc4 is the latest release candidate package and seems to work
fine. His team is working hard to finalize the official release before the
KH1 DXpedition leaves later this summer. In the mean time, specifically
for the June VHF contest I’d ask the group to please consider using the rc4 or
later when it becomes available version. </div>

<div>When setting up the WSJTX suite, look under the File, Settings, General and
click on the box Enable VHF/UHF/Microwave features. That will reveal the
NA VHF Contest box on the main WSJTX window. Also check Auto Seq and if
you intend to call CQ, check the Call 1st box. This enables the proper
contest exchange of Grids and works on both FT8 and MSK144 modes. A proper
contest QSO can be completed in one minute using this feature. </div>

<div>I operated the 6m Sprint contest with the specific goal of working some
missing grid squares to my west. To do this I decided to park my 5/5 element
antenna due west, sit on one QRG and call CQ. I decided to utilize only
digital modes to maximize my 200 watts available as the big array was tied down
due to storms. With the exception of two MSK144 QSOs in grids I needed, the rest
of my QSOs were FT8. I currently run WSJTX 1.9 rc3 with VHF/UHF/Microwave
Features enabled. My final score was 34 QSOs in 20 grids, again NOT
chasing multipliers or QSOs just CQing. </div>

be aware of the Contest Mode feature and its advantages during a NA VHF contest.
